Short Takes: Women in the Pulpit

I recently watched a young woman preach her inaugural sermon to her new congregation. I was fifty years old before I heard a woman preach from a pulpit. The truth became clear, the preacher is the messenger of the Spirit, not the message. The conduit through which the Spirit speaks is the anointing of the Spirit. I was reminded again of the overwhelming reassurance I felt at that time: the redemption of Christ accomplished on the cross was indeed as complete for women as for men. The sin of Eve no longer could be hung on women, and they are as surely ordained to practice their gifts as the men.
